Map of Arabia with, inset, a view of ‘The Temple of Mecca’ on Legacy-collections Sphere from
The Map of Arabia with an inset view of ‘The Temple of Mecca as it was formerly; from a Draught in the Bodleian Library’, was draughted by the London engraver Richard Seale, who was known for contributing maps to ‘Rapin’s History Of England (1744-1777)’. Although it is not clear from which Bodleian Library manuscript the bird’s eye drawing the ‘Temple of Mecca’ has been taken, the map itself is centred on Arabia and extends further to Egypt, Iraq, Palestine, Syria and Iran and naturally highlights the Red Sea, with accurate indications at Mecca and Medina.
