Mian Mir belonged to the Qadiriyya order of Sufism and spent the majority of his lifetime in Lahore. He was known for his religious tolerance and was revered by both Muslims and Sikhs. Prince Dara Shikoh, who was a key follower, is said to have read the oration at Mian Mir's funeral. Although he never visited Medina, he is shown praying in the courtyard of the Prophet’s mosque, in front of the ‘Garden of Fatima’, with the rawdah and the green dome above the Prophet’s tomb in the background.
