The present album represents the sandal of the Prophet, who according to tradition, wore sandals which had two leather straps. One passed between the toes and was attached to the sole, the other passed through two loops and attached behind the ankle. The companions and family of the Prophet treated the few items belonging to the Prophet with the greatest respect. Muslims have followed on from this tradition with depictions of the Prophet’s sandals and text offering prayers upon the owner.
